Friends, family and fellow citizens, I would like to announce my candidacy for Oglethorpe County Sheriff in 2024.
I would like to introduce myself; my name is James Jackson, and I am known by many as “Junior.” I am the current Coroner and the former 911 Director. I have been serving the citizens of Oglethorpe County since 1996 when I became a “Junior Firefighter.” I later became an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate and began working full time for Oglethorpe County EMS in 2002, and still currently hold an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician license. In 2005, I was given the wonderful opportunity to become a Deputy Sheriff for Oglethorpe County, and since that time, I have served as a Patrol Deputy, Reserve Deputy, Investigator, Sergeant, Captain and 911 Director. I have been a resident of Oglethorpe County all my life with only a brief period, when I was young, living outside of the county. My wife, Angela, and I reside in the Beaverdam community and have been married for 22 years. Both of our families have strong ties to the county, mine in the Smithonia community and hers in the Beaverdam community. Angela worked for Dr. Tumlin until his retirement and then for Dr. Morris, totaling 16 years. She is now a 911 Director at an agency that she has worked with for six years.
I am aware of the challenges unique to Oglethorpe County when it comes to law enforcement and public safety through my years of service.
I look forward to collaborating with you to address these challenges so that we can create a great relationship through public trust, public safety and public service. To me, the position of sheriff is not merely a title or achievement. It is an absolute honor and privilege, as well as a promise to protect and serve the citizens of Oglethorpe County. I will work tirelessly with, and for the community, to provide a safe place to live, work and raise a family.
I would appreciate your support, thoughts and prayers as we move forward. I look forward to meeting you personally and asking you for your vote, as well as answering any questions that you may have.
